I stumbled onto this by accident. See, Illiterate Scholar is awesome (hope you find the time to finish a few more FE videos!), and was one of my inspirations on starting the blog. So because I’ve watched his FE videos, this little gem popped up:
And now, I have to talk about this glorious piece of work.
No, I haven’t played this game. But I don’t know about you, but it looks awesome! For starters, it has the Game Boy style sprites (you could argue it’s Famicom like more, but eh), sounds like it’s Game-Boy like, but looks more like a cross between Famicom and Super Famicom stuff. Well, not too much Super Famicom stuff, but just enough to be impressive.
Then we get into the what exactly is Bootleg Fire Emblem ripping off of? Well, the first map immediately is a blatant rip-off of the first chapter of Shadow Dragon (Famicom and DS version). The battle sprites seem to be a combination of Gaiden (Famicom), with the background and battle hit point bog from Genealogy of The Holy War. The character sprites seem to be from Thracia 776. I can’t for the life of me figure out the music though. I have no idea what they are. I also have no idea what the story is either. Maybe it’s a combined combination of every FE story that it ripped off involving Leaf and crew. But whatever the case, it’s fascinating how much this bootleg tries to rip-off multiple Fire Emblem games. I’m going to take a chance and guess Awakening did it better.
Anyways, I guess this is nothing to be completely surprised of. Bootleg games have been made since the beginning of time, so it makes sense that for a franchise as long running as FE, it would have a game that looks like the developers threw up on their prototype. That’s just perfect.
